Every now and then a new app or utility jumps up and smacks me in the face with how useful it is rather than me having to use it extensively first.
Sticky Notes Online by Sharpra is one of those that make me say "Wow!"
The concept is simple: A Small application that looks like a Post-It™ note. Such apps come with OS X, Windows Vista/7 and a number of other systems that support Widgets/Gadgets/Applets.
There are 3rd party freeware/shareware/commercial sticky note applications that will even synchronize to other computers running the same program.
The difference is that Sharpra offers sticky note programs for almost everything, so it almost doesn't matter what operating systems or devices you use, notes you write on one device will appear on all of your devices.
Since they currently offer Sticky Notes Online for Windows Vista Sidebar, Windows 7, Mac Dashboard, Google Desktop Gadget for Windows XP/Vista/7/OS X/Linux, IGoogle.com, Live.com and MyAOL.com... it covers most desktops out there.
They are also planning to release iPhone and Windows Mobile versions this year with Blackberry and Android versions in the first half of next year.
Granted, this isn't earthshaking, world-peace-inducing, orgasmic software. No, it is just a small application that does one thing and does it well. Allows you to take notes and edit/view them on almost every communications device that you own. Even phones without current support can see the notes on your IGoogle.com page providing your phone has a web browser and internet connection.
The Cost: Oh did I mention that it is FREE?
Actually it is donation-ware. It is free to use for as long as you like. If you like it, they ask that you make a donation to them. Even that is unobtrusive... in the Dashboard widget you have to click the info icon, then go to About and you'll see the PayPal donation button.
Bottom Line: If you have more than one communications device or computer, jot little notes to yourself and want to have those same notes on all your devices/computers, Sticky-Notes Online is a must have application.
